One of the joys of living in New York City is of course its thriving theatre scene. I recently saw a new play by Julio Tumbaco called NATE AND BETTE on Theatre Row on 42nd Street. A two-character comedy-drama about a very unusual brother and sister, the play features outstanding work by Debbie Klaar and David King; Klaar in particular is the backbone of the production playing straight to the hilarious over-the-top antics of King, and ultimately her performance is why this highly original play works so well. NATE AND BETTE deserves to move on to a bigger venue. National Arts Review, John Gallagher
Lady ChardonnEy is an entertaining little romp, with convincing performances across the board—in particular Drake Andrew, who plays the slick, slimy Ranzoni. Everything about the actor's physicality and line delivery convinced me that this is a former mobster who wants nothing more than to get his vampy girlfriend into the sack. nytheatre.com review, Lisa Ferber
I'm currently working on a TV Series for streaming services, DREAMers. The underworld sex circuit parties as an income source used to keep a Latinx family in the US. Amid the legal and political uncertainties of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), three Ecuadorian brothers find themselves caged in an ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) deportation facility. Javier, the oldest, jeopardizes personal welfare for the well-being of his two younger brothers by illegally making money hosting gender non-conforming sex parties using vacant properties from his real estate portfolio but mostly, he’s motivated and compelled by Mami Rosa’s unmitigated demand: keep the family together in the US no matter what! This “real estate” success threatens their sustainability because it attracts the New York Times Annual Award, its vetting process and criminal consequences including deportation.
